	This favorite old sea-song is in a collection of penny song-books, formerly belonging to Ritson; and, with music, in Dale's Collection, i. 68. The Rev. James Plumptre wrote " When in war, on the ocean we meet the proud foe," to the tune. It is published in his collection of songs with music, 8vo., 1805. Another song on the death of Admiral Eenbow is contained in Halliwell's Early Naval Ballads of England. It commences,— " Come, all you sailora bold, lend an ear, lend an ear, Come, all you sailors bold, lend an ear : "Tis of our Admiral's fame, Brave Benbow call'd by name, How he fought on the main you shall hear, you shall hear." The tune of Admiral Benbow is the vehicle of several country songs at the present time, and used for Christmas carols. In the month of January last, Mr. Samuel Smith noted it down from the singing of some carollers at Marden, near Hereford, to the words commencing,— " A virgin unspotted the prophets foretold."
